Ford Motor Company's one-off vehicle, the Mustang AV8R sold for $500,000 Thursday evening at the Gathering of Eagles charity auction, part of Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture Oshkosh 2008, the world's largest annual aviation event.

The primary upgrades for this 2009 model-year P-51B include a 2009 Mustang chassis, Roush six-piston brakes, black chrome wheels, and a vent-pod gauge that reads the boost put out by the supercharger. Speaking of forced induction, the same 4.6L V8 and blower are fitted to the new car, generating 510hp (380kW) and 510lb-ft (690Nm) of torque. The pistons get more dish, however, to lower compression from 9.8 to 8.6, so the boost has no doubt been upped to compensate. To deliver all the fuel necessary to crank out that much power, an upgrade delivery system has been installed.

2011 Ford Mustang SR-71 Blackbird - Ford, Roush and Shelby team up for one-off charity Mustang inspired by the SR-71 Blackbird
For the last couple of years, Ford has played a big part of the EAA AirVenture, offering up one-off Mustangs at auction to benefit the association's Young Eagles program. Two years ago the AV8R Mustang brought in half a million dollars, while last year the AV-X10 'Dearborn Doll' earned $250,000 for charity.
This year's aviation-themed Mustang is inspired by the SR-71 Blackbird, a project that brought together Jack Roush and Caroll Shelby for the very first time. The one-of-one
A one-of-a-kind "Blue Angels" edition 2012 Ford Mustang GT produced by a select design and engineering team at Ford Motor Company sold for $400,000 at the Gathering of Eagles charity auction Thursday evening. Ford’s engineers and designers have set out to come up with a one-of-a-kind creation to celebrate and pay tribute to the black Tuskegee Airmen who flew P51 Mustangs and bombers in World War II, aptly known as the Red Tails. Tomorrow, Ford will join an exclusive gathering at the EAA Air Venture in Oshkock, Wisconsin with its customized Red Tails Edition Mustang sporting a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 under the custom painted bonnet pushing over 600 horsepower.
